The tune "Tarab" for example was written in Israel, after I noticed that a eastern european Rhythm we played on this tour very much resembles a Brazilian Candomble rhythm, when you speed it up and place the "one" differently. When we speed up in Tarab, the clave stays the same, but we place the accents differently - while speeding up we travel from eastern Europe Klezmer to Brazil to prove the universal nature of rhythm, and when we land in Brazil, we have a nice party at the beach - that's this tune. The word Tarab is an arabic style of music and also means the art of listening, I learned this while being in Israel.
I'm glad these four musicians took the opportunity to play and record together. They seem to be listening very carefully to each other. A seamless performance of individuals, yes indeed. freejazzy
Such a thing of beauty. The sounds are airy and I so so so truly means when I say i truly feel the album cover picture in my bones. This is a beautiful album. Its jazz and classical distilled with a lot of soul oozing through it. I will get all of Daniel's work. Thank you. Som Bhattacharyya
